Birds of Prey (Bird & Bird) consists of the following unlikely Rock Legends:
Sally Shorthose (lead vocals) - Birds of Prey has its own "Long Tall Sally" as lead singer; sadly she doesn't drive a Mustang. Originally a flautist, her flute will have to remain in the drawer as she has yet to master playing and singing simultaneously. As likely to sing rugby songs or the odd Pie Jesu, Sally is hoping with Birds of Prey to build on her teenage success as Warwickshire's disco dance champion. Diva-like tendencies are under control now, with her standard dressing room request only comprising 21 doves, Krug champagne and Beluga caviar.
Chris Holder (vocals) - 6"4'. Singer.
Rhys Williams (guitar) - Growing up in a small cabin in the Cambridge Delta, where the alluvial soil and pancake-flat vista of the Fenland geography was slavishly copied by early American settlers when they built the Mississippi Delta, Rhys is primarily a bluesman, and more particularly a light bluesman. Today, some of his songs have become part of the fabric of our society. Who can stop whistling "Telecommunications Lawyer Blues" or forget such gripping lyrics as "Woke up this morning, couldn't face the day, feeling so much better since I had my third latte"?
Simon de Broise (guitar) - Simon plays guitar, and he rocks. That's all you need to know.
Brooke Whitaker (bass) - Being a kiwi, Brooke is nocturnal and therefore suited to a rock n roll lifestyle. She plays bass because it has less strings than a regular guitar and you don't have to play any chords. Brooke's musical career started in the mid-90s, and the plan was to follow in the footsteps of Kim Deale and D'Arcy. It didn't quite work out though and she is now an IP lawyer. Ironic really, as she only plays covers.
Dean Jones (drums) - Dean started playing drums because he likes hitting things, and because hitting people is illegal in some jurisdictions. The rest of the band are hoping that his rhythm behind the kit is better than on the dance floor. Despite being in Birds of Prey, Dean doesn't like Birds. He has never been to an aviary.
Lev Gurdenli (saxophone) - Hailing from the streets of Istanbul, this Turkish delight plied his trade playing traditional folk music in the Grand Bazaar before he was scouted by Birds of Prey's manager Alex Korff to play in his "uber band" back in 1997. Taking up the saxophone because he wasn't cool enough to be in a rock band, this jazz impresario's musical talents extend mainly to playing basic porn grooves over cheesy baselines (which, coincidentally, were often played by band member Brooke). Brought in principally to stay in the shadows and provide rhythmic jazz finger clicks, this guy is living his dream. Rock on.
Tessa Finlayson (vocals, stylist, choreographer) - Known for her giggle, rather than her keyboard wizardry, Tessa is one Jock who struggles to rock. She was a master musician at the age of seven (although there is no place for bagpipes in our set), however she may be a little rusty these days. Never one to shy away from a challenge though, she is our keyboard player, backing vocal extraordinaire and, given the opportunity, stylist and choreographer to the band - uh oh!
Alexander Korff (manager) - Alex, or 'Maverick' to his close friends, lacks musical (and for that matter managerial) talent but loves sexy groupies, rock 'n' roll and tequila. Realising he was in the wrong place for some of these passions he established Birds of Prey by hand picking the best of the best of a quite limited bunch of musicians. Often under the impression that he is much more important than he really is, Alex is a Man-ager who likes to take charge, keep it real, think outside the box and use clichés and expletives to inspire his band. He is currently lacking sexy groupies.
